Liberty and Justice for All
These are Nick’s guiding political principles. They are the values behind every position on this page and the standard he believes government should be held to. These are the primary values all Americans share.
Liberty means freedom from oppression. Too often, our politics has become more focused on controlling people than protecting their freedoms, while government and corporate power are used against ordinary Missourians.
Justice requires one rule of law for everyone, especially those at the top. When powerful people can bend the rules, avoid accountability, and face no real consequences, justice becomes nothing more than an empty phrase.
Get Money out of Politics
Government should answer to the people, not billionaires, corporate PACs, and dark money. We will not see the changes necessary to improve the lives of working class Missourians until our voices are louder than dark money.
At the state level, Nick plans to introduce legislation similar to Hawaii's SB 2471 (Act 11) to redefine the legal powers and privileges of corporations.
This will also require a change to Article VIII off our constitution, so both a contingent statutory bill and a companion SJR to put the issue on the ballot.
A rough draft is already written and will be ready to introduce in January.
These state level changes will only help so much, to truly end the Citizens United decision for good, we will need a federal constitutional amendment.
Nick supports the "We the People Amendment" proposed by "Move to Amend".
The amendment does 2 things:
Clearly defines a corporation is not a person.
Clearly defines money is not speech.

Ratification of a new federal amendment involves coordination with the federal legislature as well as other state legislators.
Education
Public education is the primary driver of our future, for better or for worse. If the private schools are "doing better" than our public schools, our government should meet the challenge, not capitulate so that all of our children have access to high quality education, not just a chosen few.
Nick will work toward the following goals:
Fully funding public schools.
Ending the "MOScholars" program. -
Introduce statutory legislation to repeal the program.
Introduce SJR to put the question to the voters, to ensure this cannot be done again.
Expanding special education programs, not only for the disabled and handicapped, but for students who thrive better outside of standard classroom conditions.
